Introduction The book begins with Katniss Everdeen hunting in the forest of District 12. She has returned from the 74 th Hunger Games as the victor along with a boy named Peeta Mellark. She soon must go on her victory tour. It is a reminder of the horrors that they experienced in the games. But for now, she is living in her district, even if things aren’t exactly the same.

Identification of Protagonist/Antagonist Protagonist- Katniss Everdeen. She is a young girl who was chosen as the female tribute of District 12. Katniss fought against the Capitol by almost committing suicide to show that they did not control her or Peeta. They had to have a victor for the games,so they let both Peeta and Katniss live.

Identification of Protagonist/Antagonist Antagonist- President Snow He is the President of the Capitol of Panem. Snow would rather have let Katniss and Peeta commit suicide than let them both emerge as victors. Katniss must escape Snow’s grasp if she wants her friends and family to live.

Identification of Central Conflict The main conflict of the story is Katniss’s fight to keep her friends and family alive. President Snow is keeping constant watch over her since he took her almost committing suicide with Peeta as an act of rebellion. She knows that she must act like she is in love with Peeta if she wants everyone she cares for safe.

Minor Characters 1.Haymitch- He was the mentor of Peeta and Katniss during the 74 th Hunger Games. He helped Katniss and Peeta out during the Games and becomes their friend.

Minor Characters 2. Gale Hawthorne- He is Katniss’s best friend and took care of her family while she was fighting for her survival in the games. He also loves Katniss.

Minor Characters 3. Primrose Everdeen- She is Katniss’s younger sister. She was originally chosen as the female tribute of District 12 for the 74 th Hunger Games. Katniss volunteered in her place for she knew that someone as young as her sister could not survive in the arena.
