Commercial Break In the next 20 minutes: 1) Take a 10 minute break 2) In a small group (3-4) create a second infomercial selling one of the concepts or ideas from the presentation. Prizes will be given to the top 2 commercials

Summarization Part 1  Recall prior knowledge using DRTA form  Each group reads their article  Using main idea/detail chart complete summarization of the article  Present to class

Summarization… Why is it important?  Requires a reader to distinguish between what’s important, less important, and trivial.  Process of summarization (deleting, substituting, keeping) seems simple, but it does require a high amount of analysis of the information to be summarized

Summarization Part II  Make predictions about the content of the next article  Write questions about what you want to know from this article  Read article and complete the GIST template within your group. Place summary statement on butcher paper.  Carousel through with sticky notes to provide feedback.

Summarization… Why is it important?  Helpful to ELL, SPED, slow readers and all students. Especially helpful for difficult text  Can be used across the curriculum to summarize: *short stories*science experiment *sections of textbook*group presentations *lecture*guest speakers *math concepts*video clips
