 A fraction is a number that names a part of a whole or a part of a group.  An improper fraction has a numerator that is larger than its denominator. 4 Algebra II

 When adding or subtracting fractions, the denominators of the fractions must be the same, then you can simply add or subtract the numerators. 5 Algebra II
