Materials Wire (both coated and uncoated) –Copper –Nickel Nails (2 to 3 inch long) various types –iron –galvanized D cell alkaline batteries Bar magnet with marked north and south poles Small screws or paper clips

Activity Highlights First, discuss magnets to see what students already know and so they can see what they have questions about In groups of two, allow students to build electromagnets with as little coaching from teacher or fellow as possible Try to pick up as much as possible
