Welcome to Lifespan Development! What is Human Development? The gradual process throughout a person’s life from when they are born and until they die.

Lifespan Development The average life span in the 21 st century is 78 years. (that is 30 years longer than in the 20 th century) Why: Technology, Nutrition, Medicine, Sanitation and our lifestyles have all contributed to this increased lifespan movement through more research. You also interact with people everyday through job, family and and school life. We need to know how to interact with others. (give pre-test)

Lifespan Development Types of Development: 1.Physical: The changes, in size, body composition, chemical make-up, and height that occur as humans develop from birth through older adulthood. 2.Cognitive: The changes in the way a person’s social relationships, feelings, social skills, self- esteem, gender identity, and ways of coping with situations develop from birth through older adulthood. (Might also be called Intellectual Development or Mental Development.

Lifespan Development 3. Socio-emotional: The changes in the way a person’s social relationships, feelings, social skills, self-esteem, gender identity, and ways of coping with situations develop from birth through older adulthood
