+ Video surveillance system (VSS) is useful to society. + For traditional VSS, each camera stores streaming data to a centralized server + The issue of LVSS are insufficient bandwidth to centralized server and limited storage of the server. 2

+ we have proposed an architecture for VSS based on peer-to-peer technology and cloud computing + one directory node (DN) and the other is a lot of front-end video capturing devices (FE) with storage named peer node (PN). 3

+ the DN is designed as a thin server + managing the metadata of PNs without storing any video data. 5

+ a front-end (FE) device and is responsible for storing video data + Can be divided into primary-peer node (P-PN) and secondary-peer node (S-PN) 1. register their node information into DN and termed P-PN. 2. P-PN asks DN for giving two or more peer nodes (termed as S-PN) 3. P-PN and S-PNs compose as a replication group (RG). 6

+ Authentication Module (AM) ▪ store an authentication key (PK) of PN to DN ▪ calculate peer node communication key (PCK) - simply composed of two PKs of PNs - check whether the other node is in the same RG or not. + ReplicaManager (RM) ▪ RM manages each PN ▪ PN can directly communicate with RM Replica Selector (RS) ▪ finding appropriate replicas for P-PN + Database ▪ including the PK, PCK and other metadata 7

+ Authentication Module (AM) ▪ check whether the node is registered or not ▪ manage its PK and several PCKs ▪ ReplicaManager (RM) ▪ RM manages each PN(differenant for video streaming ) + Video Dispatcher (VD) ▪ storing captured video into storage and delivering to S-PNs + Database ▪ including the PK, PCK and other metadata 8

+ frame transmission success rate (FTSR) + The video streaming smoothly while the average FTSR is 90%. 11

+ the bandwidth is larger than 1Mbps for obtaining acceptable FTSR 12

+ concerning the bandwidth and FPS setting + When the FPS is at rate of 25 fps, the FTSR will be acceptable 13

+ discuss the impact of FTSR regarding RTT variation + the RTT only slightly affects the FTSR. 14

+ the frame size is recommended to 640 ∗
