Women’s Rights Antebellum Period
The Issue Women were treated unfairly. Not allowed to vote Married Women could not own property Women lost most of their will when married.
Causes and Impacts of the Problem Government and Religion never viewed women as power figures. Couveuture Law made married women property pretty much. Constitution and Declaration of Independence excluded women.
The Solution Margaret Brent- “First Feminist”, largest land owner in Maryland in the early 1600’s and she fought to keep her land against government. Susan B. Anthony- Spoke out for African-American rights.
Effects of the Movement Eventually gave women the right to vote, own land, make money, and become government leaders. Helped women gain independence.
Women’s Rights Today In some cases women today are still segregated against. There are a lot more women associated with politics and government positions.
