10BLOCKS2REINVENT Environment based on Community

Call For ReInvention A Call for Change is needed to rejuvenate the failing system as it stands. A state of utter chaos exists and we must find a common thread amongst all of us. Can we make this happen and how do we make this happen? Too many homeless, mouths unfed, racial discrimination, cultural stereotype, but of course we know this. Well, we say we know this? Who are we to say we understand the validity of the state of turmoil that lies in our midst. Tear it down and then it will be fixed all the problems will be healed if we have a new gaping wound, so that is what we will do. Let’s create a new sore and maybe we can find the cure for that.

Selected Space  location of blight in Philadelphia sectioned from Market Street to Girard Avenue and 52nd Street to 63rd Street  One hundred and eighty buildings are not utilized  1700 buildings in this vicinity have code violations  does not concur with the needs of the growing city of Philadelphia  Look at this as an opportunity to begin to observe the faults and flaws of the area, mainly transportation and mismanagement  The process of change is not simple, so patience of vision and perseverance must be taken into consideration.

Demolition and Salvage Current Occupants: Many of the structures are abandoned but the ones that still have families will be given two options.  One will be to accept an updated apartment in another region of Philadelphia with no cost for the period of time it takes for the neighborhood to be restructured and then remain their paying the rent that would be required of them  Two would be to stay in the updated apartments given during construction and then move back to the newly developed neighborhood and learn how to generate goods and produce for the outside community  Original Occupants will be given the option to help with deconstruction and construction of the neighborhood Material Deconstruction and Recycling: Teams of Salvagers will be scheduled to demolish homes by hand trying to reuse any material for future endeavors Removing infrastructure: Plumbing, Pavers, and Electricians need to remove infrastructure after the houses have been carefully taken down. Five Year Plan: Under Review

New Zoning Transportation System perimeter of the 10 by 10 block radius contains porous asphalt parking spaces no streets for cars in radius Bike paths created from porous asphalt walking paths paved in pennycress, which will filter the soil handicap accessible paths in parallel to the bike paths. All three paths will create new block coverage, eliminating the previous transportation system.

Water Collection and Distribution Grid Water Filtration and Flow majority of the water will be collected from the permeable membranes underneath the gardens on top of the roofs and collected from drainage through the permeable asphalt under the bike trail water collected into cisterns in each building, which adds to that buildings water supply Water is not pumped through any form of sewage system. Water is in its own network of piping and is moved by either gravity or compressed air. Water is used for: Drip Irrigation Systems Household or Business sinks and showers

Waste System Sewage Human waste transported by compressed air to a collection system that adds the excretions to compost and fertilizer collection facilities are located on all four corners of the city Waste and Recycling Each roof top garden has its own hot composting system that is sustainable during the winter. No vegetable is wasted.

Energy Grid Energy Supply Network is connected to the Philadelphia electrical grid. Water supply heated by solar water heaters in every residential building Energy Efficient insulation and Windows based on East to West Sunlight Daytime sunlight used for heat During the night Family Quilted Insulated blankets roll down over the windows to protect from wind chills
