Presentation transcript:

 Write down all the different ways you can think of in which someone with a disability can use a computer.  (Try to think of things other than a keyboard and mouse, what else could be used?)

 Become familiar with how people with disabilities can access a computer.  Become familiar with what software is available to assist people with learning difficulties.  Complete a research booklet and examination questions based on the above areas (over multiple lessons).

 In an ICT context a disability is something which prevents full access to a computer in the usual way which is currently via keyboard on mouse. Assistive technologies can help people with a disability to access a computer.  Software is also available which assists people with learning difficulties. These are the two areas you need to explore.

 Braille Keyboards  Microphone input  Magnifier  On Screen Keyboard  Foot mouse  Sip and Puff Technology  Shortcuts and large screen resolution  Sticky keys  Text to speech (screen readers)  Voice dictation

 Over 2-3 lessons, you will complete some self research, which will be assessed and you will receive a grade and feedback for.  You need to complete the Support Technologies Workbook. Lets look at it before we begin.Support Technologies Workbook  ICT and Learning  Devices and Software to support learning  Support Technologies Workbook

 Become familiar with how people with disabilities can access a computer.  Become familiar with what software is available to assist people with learning difficulties.  Complete a research booklet and examination questions based on the above areas (over multiple lessons).

 Lets review the technology by playing jeopardy.jeopardy  Further questions: › State two technologies which would help someone with a disability which would prevent them from ordinarily accessing a computer system [2] › Explain how voice recognition software could be used to help a student who has learning difficulties [3]
