 The casual encounters which occur between supervisors and teachers  Is characterised by frequent ◦ informal visits to teachers’ classrooms ◦ conversations with teachers about their work ◦ other informal activities

 Certain expectations to be accepted by teachers  Must be reciprocal – equal partners  Teachers should be involved in at least one other approach such as clinical, peer, self- direct or inquiry-based supervision  Principal and other supervisors play important roles

 Act as principal teachers who have a responsibility to be part of all teaching in school  To be viewed as instructional partners  Become common fixtures in classrooms, coming and going as part of the natural flow of the school’s daily work  Should accommodate teachers’ preferences in selecting an additional approach

 Reserve the final responsibility for deciding the appropriateness of the selected approach (such as clinical, peer or self- directed supervision)
