8 B.Garilli Milan, October 2009 Similar page for Deep2 Trivial to reach Self explaining Photometric Catalogs The photometric catalogs spanning the entirety of all four DEEP2 survey fields Redshift Catalog REDSHIFT CATALOG 50,386 entries 1-D and 2-D DEIMOS Spectra Slitmask Design Info The "bintabs" file for a given slitmask (e.g., 3206.bintabs.fits) details the position and dimension (PA, length, width, etc.) of each slitlet, the objects placed in each slitlet, and much more. DEEP 2 also in wikipedia!!! The DEEP2 Survey or DEEP2 is a Redshift survey of the Redshift~1 universe. It uses the Keck telescopes (the world's largest optical telescope as of 2005[update]) to measure the spectra and hence redshifts of approximately 60,000 galaxies. It is the first project to study galaxies in the distant Universe with the resolution of local surveys like Sloan Digital Sky Survey

9 B.Garilli Milan, October 2009 Public data sets IN VIZIER: 7 catalogs (but only 6 are VVDS) 1.VIRMOS deep imaging survey. VVDS-F02 catalog (VIRMOS team+, 2008) 2.The VIMOS VLT deep survey (VVDS-DEEP) (Le Fevre+ 2005) 3.Redshifts from VIMOS VLT Deep Survey (Le Fevre+, 2004) 4.VIMOS VLT Deep Survey: faint type-1 AGN sample (Gavignaud+, 2006) 5.VVDS-VLA Deep Field: 610 MHz catalog (Bondi+, 2007) 6.Physical properties of VVDS galaxies (Lamareille+, 2009) 7.XMDS/VVDS 4σ catalogue (Chiappetti+, 2005) Same query for Deep2: 3 catalogs

10 B.Garilli Milan, October 2009 Much work for nothing???? Deep sample contains 7000 galaxies Number of papers using the Deep sample: >40 Wide sample contains galaxies Number of papers using (partially) the wide sample: 3 or 4 The wide sample covers 8 sq. degrees, 0<=z<=1.5 Is rich in massive, red, old, luminous galaxies Is the largest of the kind But we are not interested in it Let’s hope somebody else will use it!

11 B.Garilli Milan, October 2009 VIRmos project offsprings 51 refereed papers (1 every 1000 spectra), 1450 refereed citations (?) A spectrograph for the VLT 3 large programs (zCosmos, MASSIV, VIPERS) + UltraDeep + ??? >=12 PhD thesis/students >20 post docs >12 permament positions A “real equal opportunity” project: 31% women (Italy mean 27%; France mean: 26%) 4 women in the hardware group (HUGE!!!) Formed a GROUP: ~100 people involved in the different phases Some marriages A number of children A very successful project, a wonderful experience Thanks to everybody
