Ultrasound-based diagnostic imagined technique is used for visualizing internal body structures including tendons, muscles, joints, vessels and internal organs for possible pathology or lesions. Ultrasound scanner uses array of transducers in order to send and receive sound waves. After a processing of the returned echo signals an image is created and specialist can perform a diagnostic on it. Our project will address the development of 3D ULS imaging system for research purposes. shtml Our moulde We will build a beam former module for ultrasound scanner. The whole system will include 1024 transmitting channels with configurable beam former delays and a HV switches for measurements of the echo signal. We divide the system into 8 similar modules, each will include 128 transmitting channels.

The system looks like this Sync + config FPGA Probe 1024 Transmitters 256 Receivers

AS WE SAID IN THE PREVIOUS SLIDE, WE WILL DIVIDE THE WHOLE BOARD INTO 8 SIMILAR SUBBOARDS, EACH CONTAINS 128 TRANSMITTERS, 32 OF THEM WORK AS RECEIVERS –BY THE USER’S CHOICE- AS WELL SubBoard 1 SubBoard 2 SubBoard 5 SubBoard 6 Board SubBoard 3 SubBoard 4 SubBoard 7 SubBoard 8 Simultaneous firing pulse Since it’s important to pulse simultaneously, the whole system is connected to one firing wire, so that all of the boards get the firing pulse at the same time, and thus the system remains synchronized. Our system’s maximal accepted delay is about 1nsec.

Each one of the SubBorads looks like the shape in the left. The SubBoard contains 8 chips in each side, all of them will function as transmitter, but only quarter of this number will be enabled to work as receiver by the user’s choice. We will design through out our project one SubBoard and we will duplicate it to get the whole board complete.

8 Wires 8 channels chip

The Beamformer The LM96570 is an 8-channel monolithic beamformer for pulse generators in multi- channel medical ultrasound applications. T/R Switch The MAX14808 will be used as the transmit/receive switch, all signals are transmitted on the same frequency. Each channel can be switched to be used as a transmitter or a receiver.

Our goals to the Middle presentation is to finish the theoretical design and calculations, and to order them in power point slides.
