Giraffe Giraffe Scientific Name: Giraffe Camelopardalis By Sadie & Gabrielle

Physical Description A giraffe’s coat has patchlike markings of tawny (a light brownish-yellow) to chestnut-brown.The lines that separate the patches are lighter tawny or white. This color pattern helps protects giraffes by making them hard to see when they stand among trees. Each giraffe has it’s own distinct coat pattern World book G 8 page

Diet The giraffes spend many hours eating shoots, leaves, fruit and seedpods. They reach the leaves at the top of the tree with their long necks Giraffes the Sentinels of the Sounds page 25

Habitat The giraffe lives in the Plains and African Grasslands. World book G 8 page 194 & Giraffe Family

 With it’s six to eight foot neck a giraffe can reach new growth leaves at the top of the tree!!!  Each time a male giraffe rises it’s head it lifts 550 pounds ( a weight of the head and the neck combination)!!!  Giraffes can eat sharp thorny twigs because the inside of their mouth is really hard!!!!  A male giraffe covers about 15 feet with each stride!!!  Male giraffes may grow more then 18 feet. That is 5 feet more then a African Elephant
