China is the 3rd largest country in the world

 -North China Plain and Chang Jiang Basins  -good fertile land (where wheat and millet grew)  -in the marshes of the Basins grew rice  -raised cattle, sheep, oxen, pigs, chicken  -built permanent homes out of rammed earth  -also ate seafood

 Outer China:  -Tibetan Plateau  - Northwestern Deserts (Gobi and Taklimakan deserts)  -Northeaster plains (too cold for farming)

 -Tibetan Plateau  Not suitable for growing crops  But animals could be raised like yaks  People had to move frequently to find new grazing areas  Yaks provided meat, milk butter and yogurt, clothing and materials for tent  - Northwestern Deserts (Gobi and Taklimakan deserts) The only settled communities were near oasis There people built homes out of mud Grew cotton, winter wheat and maize (type of corn) Main foods were wheat noodles, read and mutton (sheep meat)

 -Northeaster Plain  Too cold and dry for farming, but prairie grass supports live stock  Nomads- early settlers in this region  Raised sheep, goats, cattle, and horses  Main food was meat  Lived in tents  Consistently moved to find grass for their animals  nomads often would invade the Inner China to get supplies so the Inner people built a wall to keep them out which was the beginning of the Great Wall of China.
