Mrs. Price’s 1st Grade Class Welcome, parents!

Welcome to First Grade!  I will introduce you to first grade and to our classroom.  If you have any questions during my presentation, please write it down on the paper provided and put it in the question box on your way out. I will answer these ASAP.

All About Me  Family:  Richie-  Children – Mallory 8, Aubrey 7  Background:  I grew up in Corinth, MS -Moved to Memphis in  I graduated from the Mississippi State University (GO DAWGS!) with a degree in Elementary Education.  My experience:  I have taught 3 rd -5 th grades in my 13 years of teaching!! This is my fourth year as a 1 st grade teacher.  My assistant:  Mrs. Kellie Read  Married with 2 children: Molly and Shelby. She is Awesome!!

My Goals  To give your child the academic & social skills needed to progress to 2nd grade.  To provide a safe, supportive, & fun classroom environment.  To help your child make new friends and discover new interests.

School Wide Policies:  School Safety:  All visitors must report to office – other doors locked from outside  Please have ID  Bus Passes – Please send a written note if there is ever a change.  Tardies & Check Outs:  School Starts 8:25 Tardy After 8:30  After 15 tardies – student suspended for 1 day – every 3 rd tardy after 15 results in 1 day suspension  Car Riders dismiss 3:15 Bus Riders 3:20  Conferences- M, T, W, F 10:25-11:05 or before school (No Thurs.conferences due to grade levels)

Classroom Policies:  Daily Organized Notebook- sent home daily. 1. initial behavior log behind zipper pouch. 2. take out papers in the front to review.  Homework- packet returned by Friday.  Communication—   Graded papers  Papers are yours to keep. Please correct any missed questions and review that with your child. Only return the sheet on top (unless noted to correct and return)..  Go home Wednesdays- Return by Friday.  GRADING SCALE: S (satisfactory) N (needs improvement) U (unsatisfactory) No % grades; all grades based on skills mastered  Test Schedule  Math and Reading comprehension every week. Spelling, writing, and phonics will be rotated. Assessments in speaking and listening will be done as rubrics at the end of the nine weeks.

MS LITERACY ACT  Students will be tested 3 times this year per the MS Literacy Act. Testing is done in the computer lab and is very important.  They will also need to pass the 3 rd grade Literacy test to be promoted to 4 th grade.

More Classroom Policies:  Birthday Celebrations :  Invitations &/or Food (please send everyone an invitation)  Classroom Celebrations during recess  Parties:  Christmas/Valentine’s Day  Room mom/ Helpers  Food:  Breakfast program 7:55-8:15 $1.25  Students are responsible for their OWN snack and water bottle.  Lunch:  Tray-$2.50 Milk-$.50  No charges

Expected Behaviors  Classroom Behavior- See Poem  Respectfully follow all directions 1 st time given.  Be polite and respectful at all times.  Keep hands, feet, objects, and hurtful words to yourself.  Raise hand and get permission to speak or leave your seat.  Be responsible for class materials and assignments.  Come to class prepared (have notebooks, books, homework, and supplies).  Always do their best work!  Hallway & Bathroom Behavior  Voices off.  Walking feet.  No writing utensils in the bathroom.  When washing hands, use 1 squirt of soap and 3 pulls of paper towels.  No touching the walls or the things displayed on the walls.

Expected Behaviors  Playground Behaviors  No pushing, tackling or rough play.  ALWAYS go DOWN the slide on your BOTTOM – ONE at a time.  Only one person at a time in a swing.  No jumping off any play equipment.  Be respectful and kind.  Line up quickly & quietly when you hear the first whistle.  Be quiet when you hear or see the quiet signal.  Cafeteria Behaviors  Do not talk in the serving line.  Don’t take food from or put food on another student’s tray.  Talk softly to the people around you after eating.  Use good manners.  Stay seated until time to leave.

Behaviors & Consequences  Marks/Consequences:  2 marks yellow- bad choice note/ lose 5 minutes of recess (walk track)  3 marks orange- bad choice note/lose 10 minutes of recess (walk track)  4 marks red- Bad choice note/loss of recess and silent lunch; note/phone call to parents/possible discipline form from office/classroom isolation  Students who do not get ANY marks for the week will be rewarded with a Classroom Coupon on Friday!  Students who clip up to Blue are rewarded daily with a sucker or skittles.  BUCKET FILLERS- students also receive “fuzzies” in their bucket each day if they do not get marks. When their bucket is full, they get to choose from our TREASURE BOX!  Behavior Log: B-super choices G-good day ready to learn Y- warning O-orange R-red  A behavior note will accompany ORANGE AND RED. Please sign and return the next day.
