Evaluation of unit 9

For the unit 9 photography unit we had to complete a number of different tasks that lead toward completing posters on Photoshop about the chosen band. We had to create 2 posters using Photoshop that included 1 image taken from the internet, 4 self taken photo images and 2 scanned from books or magazines for each poster.

For by PowerPoint presentation and posters I chose to base them about Spandau Ballet. The reason I chose Spandau was that their song true is one of my favourite songs and their music is great to listen to. I decided to do one poster about a Brighton centre live gig and one about a greatest hits album. To help me come up with these ideas and for research I created various mind maps using text2mindmap and made a PowerPoint presentation. These helped influence the look of my poster. Then I created the posters using the ideas from my PowerPoint, Google images and the photos I have taken of a variety of outside images.

 We first experimented on text2mindmap creating spider diagrams about photographic history, then we started to move onto the PowerPoint presentation.  first of all we researched our chosen band, mine being Spandau Ballet.  I was researching Ballet’s history, their albums,  Songs, band members, etc.  Then I started doing the PowerPoint presentation, I wrote a lot of information and added images on each slide about Spandau Ballet and edited the background and effects using the slide show tool. 

I tested the slide show on its full potential and started taking pictures outside from musical instruments to music shops to Beach views and the Brighton/. I then started My posters using all kinds of images including ones from magazines and the photos to mix them up to create interesting art images witch fits in with Spandau Ballet. I used the eraser tool to rub out parts of the images and the lasso tool to highlight marked areas and rub out the remaining parts, I used the text tool to insert and edit texts I also used the tool to resize and reshape the images to fit in with the background. Overall I used tons of tools to personalise my posters to great effect.

 I think that it went quite well and one of my best things about my project is developing my skills in Photoshop because I didn’t know all of the tools that I know about now.  Even though I finished before the deadline I would of liked more time because my may have been better.  It would be handy if they had Photoshop in the library.

 I did enjoy taking photo’s but I prefer using Photoshop personalising my posters because I didn’t want to walk long distances.  I found scanning an image quite hard because there wasn’t any books which have anything to do with Spandau Ballet.  I think using the planner is a great idea and found it very useful in getting started with the project.  Overall I feel that I understand the objectives but had some technical problems with computers like Photoshop not being accessible in the library but I managed to meet the standards.

 Smart 1  I'm going to complete the planner at the start of every unit and task and regularly look at it every day. Smart 2 I will spend 2 hours a week researching college activities and different units.

 This has helped me understand more about program tools and It could help me understand more robust tools on other programs.  I noticed from my posters that I will defiantly use Ideas to personalise presentational program documents.
