M ARY ’ S C HILDHOOD Mary Bethune was born to parents who had grown up as slaves. She was born on July 10 th Mary was one out of 17 children. She was born in Mayesville, South Carolina.

M ARY B ETHUNE ’ S E DUCATION Mary Bethune went to bible college in Chicago. After she went to college she decided to teach others. She got a school in Florida in 1904 for girls. Boys came in 1923 to learn. Later on it became Bethune Cookman College.

M ARY B ETHUNE ’ S G REAT W ORK Mary Bethune died on May 18 th 1955, in Daytona Florida. Before she died she wrote “ I leave education for every one”. In 1973,she was put in the national wall of fames. In 1985 she was put on a stamp for her likeness.
