PETER’S FAITH IS TESTED
Learning Goals:Success Criteria: -Understand the “good news” of the Gospel story as a way to know God’s saving love for us. - Understand that in moments of “doubt” and “fear”, Christ is there for us. -Can I read the story of Peter trying to walk on water and relate it to times in my own life where I have had doubt? -Create an advertisement or comic strip that shows the themes of doubt and fear and overcoming that doubt or fear
Matthew 14:22-33 In groups of 2-3 read this passage in the bible and answer the following questions:
What miracle had taken place prior to Jesus sending the disciples off on the boat? Why were the disciples scared when they saw Jesus walking on the water? Why do you think they would have doubted Jesus being able to walk on water. Considering they had just witnessed a miracle? How did Peter ask for proof that it was in fact Jesus? Why do you think Peter begins to sink? How are we like Peter? What does Jesus say to Peter after Peter nearly drowns? How do you turn to God and/or faith in moments when you feel like you’re drowning?
Create An advertisement or comic strip that re-creates the theme of the story of Peter trying to walk on the water Remember that like Peter, we only start sinking when we experience “fear” and don’t trust in God so in your comic strip or advertisement, make sure to show the themes of “fear” and “doubt”. Note: Your comic strip isn’t of Peter walking on water but a comic strip that shows overcoming fear. DO NOT draw Peter walking on water!)
