Mtns 1) Kunlun Mountains are located in west China - gives us 2 of the 3 main rivers: 1) Huang He (Yellow) 2) Chang Jiang (Yangtze)

Mtn 2) Qinling Shandi Mountains divide northern China from the south

Plains & Plateaus Plains and Plateaus - Mountainous area of East Asia has very few flat areas: A) Plateau of Tibet (Xizang Plateau) B) Tarim Pendi Basin – (western China) C) Taklimakan Desert – (western China)

Rivers Rivers - Rivers offer food and irrigation to people in china * Irrigation means to water crops - 3 major rivers of East Asia

1) Huang He (Yellow river) - located in Northern China - starts in the Kunlun Mtns, and empties into the Yellow sea - gets “yellow” from the yellow silt (mud) it deposits into the banks of the river

Rivers 2) Chang Jiang (Yangtze River) - Longest river in East Asia, name means “Long River” - A major trade route of East Asia because it connects Tibet with the eastern side of Asia

Rivers 3) Xi Jiang (West River) - runs in the southern part of China - empties into the South China Sea - Rivers are a blessing and a curse: they bring food but also bring floods: which kill many East Asians a year

Resources - Resources of East Asia are not evenly distributed - China, Mongolia, North Korea have abundant natural resources - Japan, South Korea, Taiwan have very limited resources
