Aden Cannon

The Aden 30mm cannon is a single-barrelled, five-chambered rotating cylinder gun, which is used by the Jaguar GR3A in the air-to-ground role and the Hawk T1A for air-to-air and air-to-ground training. It is electrically fired and gas operated with a rate of fire of between 1200 and 1400 rounds per minute. The Jaguar GR3A has two cannon housed in port and starboard gun bays in the lower centre fuselage, whilst the single cannon operated by the Hawk T1A is housed in an external gun-pod assembly bolted to the underside of the fuselage. The cannon can be harmonised with the aircraft’s HUD to give a firing imagery display, which the pilot aligns onto the target.
