The Island of Moorea

Moorea: The Island Moorea is a small island in the Pacific Ocean. It is about 2,700 miles south of Hawaii, and about 3,600 miles east of Australia. Moorea is the neighbor island of Tahiti and an important part of French Polynesia.

Moorea: The Landscape Moorea means “yellow lizard” in Tahitian. Moorea is a tropical island, with regular rainfall in the summer months (November - April). Moorea is about 40 miles around, with one road and many houses around the outside.

Moorea: Where People Live The three big towns on Moorea are named Paopao, Papetoai and Teavaro. People on Moorea speak both French and Tahitian, and many can speak English too! About 12,000 people live on Moorea

Moorea: Elementary Schools Kids who live on Moorea go to school just like you. Notice how their school, playground and classrooms are similar to your school. How are they different?
