2 nd Grade Science Lesson

Green Sea Turtles They are the larges hard shell turtle in the world, weighing in at 440lbs. They live along the coastline of over 80 countries including Costa Rico and Australia. Most of their live is spend under water but they do come on land to breath and sunbathe. Sea turtles eat primarily plant based foods including seaweed and sea grass. Baby sea turtles are born in the same place their mothers were born and spend the first few years floating and eating plankton

Green Sea Turtles Adult sea turtles face many dangers from humans including injures from boat propellers, and getting caught in fishing nets.

Bottlenose Dolphins

Dolphins can leap as high as 20 feet in the air. They use different ways to communicate including squeaking, whistling and body language. Dolphins produces high frequency clicks know as echolocation to tell when an object is in the water. This is a sonar system that helps the sound of the clicks bounce off different objects. This helps the dolphins find out the shape, size, speed, distance and location of the different objects.

Brown Bears Brown Bears as also know as Grizzly Bears. They can eat up 90 lbs of food to prepare for winter. In the winter Brown bears Hibernate and lives off the stored body fat. Cubs are born in Mid winter while mama bears are sleeping. The cubs reat and Feed off mother bear while see is sleeping. Cubs only live with The mother bear for three years.

Howler Monkey

Howler Monkeys live in Central and South America and are considered one of the loudest moneys. They sound like a whooping bark or roar. These monkeys live in the tree tops where they eat thing like leaves, nuts fruits and flowers. Howler monkey also have a tail you can grip that helps them grip the tree branches while they are eating. A howler monkey can grown to be about 22 to 36 in with a tail ranging anywhere from inches long.
