High Context Culture Reserved Ex. Women should wear covered clothes in work place or with family. Polite people admired Ex. They have a formal speech and informal. The more formal speech you use the more people will respect you and admire you. Public criticism insulting Ex. A man was not accepted as a teacher in Korean school because of his color and a women because of her religion. Strong sense of family Ex. In the Korean culture, the family is the center of all social organizations. The family is considered a natural and spontaneous support system. It is characterized by natural attachment and reciprocal obligation, which serve various functions of support to all family members. At the core of the Korean family system is respect for elders and filial piety. No direct eye contact Ex. If you are speaking to someone who is in a high level than you, you can’t see him/her in eyes or it will count as a challenge and disrespect to his/her position.
