BTEC IT Unit 01 Whole Unit Guidance Mr C Johnston ICT Teacher
Session Objectives Understand the requirements for each of the grading criteria within unit 01 Modify work to ensure that the requirements are met.
Assessment Point #1 1 (P1, P2, P3, M1, M2) P1 For P1, the important point to remember is that you must explain why the attributes are valued. You do not need to describe the attribute, but can merely state what it is and explain why it is valued. It is expected you will address at least one topic from: Specific attributes: job-related e.g. technical knowledge; good working procedures eg health and safety, security; work attitudes General attributes: skills e.g. planning skills, organisational skills, time management, team working, verbal skills, written communication skills, numeracy, creativity Attitudes: preferred e.g. determined, independent, integrity, tolerance, dependable, problem solving, leadership, confidence, self-motivation
Assessment Point #1 2 (P1, P2, P3, M1, M2) P2 For P2, you must explain the principles of effective communication. The principles are outlined in three subsets: general skills interpersonal skills written communication skills You should address each of these areas, choosing two or three points from each to discuss. There is no requirement to laboriously explain every example given in the content.
Assessment Point #1 3 (P1, P2, P3, M1, M2) P3 For P3 you need to describe the potential barriers to communication. To do this, you should attempt to address at least one barrier from each of: general communication skills (e.g. a diverse audience) Interpersonal skills (e.g. background noise) written communications (e.g. using an inappropriate structure) M1 For M1, you need to consider the barriers they have identified for P3 and explain what can be used to reduce their impact. Explain how the mechanism can be used and why it may work. M2 Further evidence for M2 (if not achived already) could come from proofreading your communcation created for P6. Although you are not required to learn and use standard proofing symbols (although if you do good), you are expected to make notes or marks on the original document which indicate what has to be done. Original and final versions are required.
Assessment Point #1 4 (P1, P2, P3, M1, M2) M2 M2 requires you to proofread some of your work. This could be any of the documents created during this assessment point. Although you are not required to learn and use standard proofing symbols (although if you do good), you are expected to make notes or marks on the original document which indicate what has to be done. Original and final versions are required.
Assessment Point #2 1 (P4, P5, P6, M2, D1) P4 For P4 you need to undertake a variety of interpersonal communications ranging from normal day-to-day interaction within a group, or in the whole class, through to giving a short presentation (for which peer assessment can be utilised). This type of interaction takes place in your work for the various subjects on the course (and in your life away from education) hence it is sensible to utilise all of this information when evidencing this criterion.
Assessment Point #2 2 (P4, P5, P6, M2, D1) P5 Criterion P5 is a straightforward demonstration that you can use the techniques word processing presentation software or specialist software. Evidence may come from this or other units as long as it is clear it is your own work
Assessment Point #2 3 (P4, P5, P6, M2, D1) P6 P6 could be some form of ‘dummies’ guide to communucate a technical subject to a specfied audience. (How HTTP requests work for the Right- On-Recruitement Manager) As this is one pass criterion among many, a large document (or web- based page) is not required and your should not spend a disproportionate amount of time completing this criterion M2 Further evidence for M2 (if not achived already) could come from proofreading your communcation created for P6. Although you are not required to learn and use standard proofing symbols (although if you do good), you are expected to make notes or marks on the original document which indicate what has to be done. Original and final versions are required.
Assessment Point #2 4 (P4, P5, P6, M2, D1) D1 For D1, you must evaluate interpersonal and written communication techniques you have used in this or other units, Essentially, this is an evaluation of all the content learnt in the unit’s pass and merit criteria, and you should be able to use the themes within your communication, The ideal evidence here is a brief report, Most importantly, make sure your report demonstrates your own ability to communicate effectively.
Assessment Point #3 1 (P7, P8, M3, D2) P7 To achieve P7 you must be totally honest in your analysis of your strengths and weaknesses. Only then can you produce a plan that suits you. The plan may be presented in any appropriate format and may be for any length of time as long as the time is sufficient for them to monitor progress. Include realistic timescales within your plan so that you can expect to be successful in whatever it is you are planning.
Assessment Point #3 2 (P7, P8, M3, D2) P8 To achieve P8 make a note of your progress on a regular basis. Writing everything up at the end of the course would be a terrible chore and your experiences would no longer be fresh in your mind. Instead, try to write something each day, as you would a blog, and make a note each time you experience something new. This will allow you to produce a lively and honest record. M3 To achieve M3 answer the question “if you know your preferred learning style, how can this help you to make your learning more effective?”. You may offer a personal perspective or a more general perspective.
Assessment Point #3 3 (P7, P8, M3, D2) D2 For D2, you will review their PDP and identify areas for improvement Identify weakness within your work carried out whist following the and focus on different techniques which can be used to solve this weakness Choose weaknesses you genuinely want to overcome and set yourself realistic targets to achieve them Your review can close with a note of your success
