MAUD MY CHEEKY PET CHICKEN.

Our Chickens We started of with four chickens. Who's names are Austin, Ellie, Charlotte and Sasha. We then gained another chicken called Maud. Maud was a battery hen, and was saved by my dads friend Tom. She used to live in Warboys High Street, but she kept escaping and going to the local shops.

We have plenty of room in our garden so she came to live with us. Maud has her own personality, she is always the first out of the run and likes to follow you around the garden, she doesn’t mind being picked up and stroked. She even likes to go indoors, so Mum has to take her back out, Maud ate most of our strawberries in the vegetable patch.

What Maud likes to eat Maud likes to eat cucumber, strawberries, corn and layer pellets. She also likes cabbage leaves and worms. When I squeezed an egg and it broke Maud tried to eat it.

This is my sister stroking Maud None of the other chickens let me stoke them.

What Maud Likes To Do Maud likes to sit in the shade in the garden. Maud like to explore and to see what’s going on.

Maud’s Baby Chick We hatched 9 eggs using an incubator, but the 9 th one died because it was very poorly. Mummy helped one out of its shell which was Maud’s baby chick. I have named her Cookie.

Me Looking After The Chicks Once they were a bit older and fluffed up Daddy made a special box for them to live in. They had to have a red light to keep them warm and cosy. They could only eat chick crumb. These are the chicks all grown up in the garden.

Chicken Ville This is where my chickens live. They have lots of room to run about and peck for worms and bugs at the end of the day when it gets dark they all go back in on their own and put themselves to bed

I think it is good to have a pet Maud because I now know how to look after her. We get eggs from her nearly every day.
