Welcome to the Healthy Schools enhancement model Session 1 – Introduction

Annual Review (AR) A useful tool to maintain the good work from NHSS Submitting on the website will officially maintain your Healthy School status Monitoring 10% of AR – submit anytime

Healthy Schools enhancement model This is the current national model which shows a ‘public health’ approach to addressing health needs of pupils in your school.

Why? For the health and wellbeing of children and young people – Building on strong NHSS foundations – Needs driven – data about your pupils – School focus - set own priorities and outcomes – Improving health and wellbeing leads to better achievement – Linked to Ofsted SEF, Every Child Matters agenda, Healthy Child Programme … etc – Healthier, happier children and young people

Get senior management on board Involve key people: – parents – governors – MAST members (school nurse) – key staff members (learning mentors, lunchtime supervisors, school sports coordinator) – extended services 1. H&Wb Development Group

What data are you aware of about your children and young people that could help you choose your priorities? Priorities could include: – Obesity, teenage pregnancy, emotional health and wellbeing (including bullying) – Substance misuse – NEETs, entrants into youth justice system, participation in positive activities, involvement in road traffic accidents 2. Needs Analysis

What’s next? You can now complete Q1 of case study part 1: 1. Who is involved in working on the health priorities in your school? When did you start work on this? Tell us about how the group works (when you meet, who is involved). How do children and young people contribute?
