France Jacques Cartier: 1534-1541 Explored: Labrador, and New Foundland Canada St. Lawrence River and Gulf

Samuel de Champlain French Explorer who began to explore North America, following the journals of Cartier. Champlain established the first permanent French settlements in North America, and called the land “New France.” French Explorers came to spread Catholicism, Create Alliances with Native Tribes (Huron & Algonquin), and to build the fur trade.
