Safe Schools Initiative In an effort to ensure that our classrooms and school is a safe haven and a facility which is conducive to learning a proactive and reactive approach are necessary to enhance the quality of safety for ALL students, teachers and staff.

Rights and Responsibilities Parents Assume legal responsibility for the behavior of the child Teach the child self-discipline, respect for authority and the rights of others Provide a positive home environment that will reflect school values Make sure that the child attend school regularly Cooperate with school staff to develop strategies to benefit the student.

Rights and Responsibilities Student To be aware of and to ABIDE by system wide policies, Regulations and guidelines regarding ACCEPTABLE behavior. To be responsible for one’s own behavior. To conduct oneself in a manner which is conducive to learning and does not interfere with the teacher’s right to teach and the student’s right to learn. To respect the personal, civil and property rights of ALL members of the school community.

Rights and Responsibilities Teacher To provide opportunities for ALL students to develop self- discipline To accept shared responsibility for control and discipline of students throughout the school building and property To consider the physical, social, intellectual and emotional development of the students. To establish and inform students of individual classroom behavior expectations and to maintain discipline within the classroom. To be aware of system wide policies, regulations and school guidelines for discipline. To use positive reinforcement and not ridicule. To utilize reasonable strategies in addressing disruptive behavior PRIOR to referring a student for out of class disciplinary action.

Rights and Responsibilities Principal-Assistant Principal To consistently apply the Code of Conduct guaranteeing clear standards and consequences for student behavior. To Maintain order on the campus. To discipline students and to assign duties to teachers duties with regard to discipline. To report certain acts to law enforcement To be readily available to handle disruptive behavior, discipline and emergency situations. To communicate effectively to parents the expectations of the school discipline policies. To collaborate with the Safe Schools Department in enforcing school / system policy to ensure a safe campus.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Safe School Pledge My individual choices and actions, when multiplied by those of other students throughout the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System will make a difference. By honoring this pledge, I can do my part to make our schools safe and successful. I believe that I can be a good student. I believe I can show good character. I believe that when I work hard, I will succeed, so I will work hard each day to do my best. I can learn. I will learn.

Safe School Pledge- Cont. To keep my school safe, I pledge to adhere to guidelines established within the Student Rights, Responsibilities and Character Development Handbook. I understand that a violation of Rules 11-31(as well as repeated violations of rule 9) may result in a 10 day suspension followed by a due process hearing. This process may result in additional consequences that may include exclusion from school or my being assigned to an alternative school/program.To keep my school safe, I pledge to adhere to guidelines established within the Student Rights, Responsibilities and Character Development Handbook.
