Transforming Presence Knowing God in the Ordinary

“I will be with you always…” “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” “I will be your God and you will be My people.” Greatest Promise

What if we were to live as if God were present at all times in every place in all situations— always seeking our good and His glory? Our Challenge

We would see God in everything – “secular” becomes “sacred” – “small” becomes “great” – God is known in all aspects of life & not merely in “devotional exercises” Living in Light of God’s Presence…

Scripture Creation Humans Providence Christ Means of Revelation

We would see God in everything We could fully live in the present moment – Dwelling on the past/worrying about the future takes us away from God’s presence in the “now” – God’s presence in all things gives us joy in all present duties Living in Light of God’s Presence…

We would see God in everything We could fully live in the present moment Our lives would become “embodied prayer” Living in Light of God’s Presence…

“To be spiritual is to take seriously our consciousness of God's presence and to live in such a way that the presence of God is central in all that we do.” (Howard Rice, Reformed Spirituality, p.46) True “Spirituality”

“Enoch walked with God” (Gen. 5:24) “Noah walked with God” (Gen. 6:9) “Moses endured, as seeing Him who is invisible” (Heb. 11:27) “I (David) have set the Lord always before me” (Psalm 16:8; 139:7-12) “We look not at things which are seen” (Paul, 2 Cor. 4:18; cf. 2 Tim. 4:1-2) True “Spirituality”

Gracious God, We are before you. We are always before you. You see us as we are and Love us for ourselves. You hear the words We cannot say. You know the longing We cannot express.

Grant that it be enough for us To be seen, To be known, and To be loved by you this moment. (Ben Campbell Johnson)
