DO NOW (5 Minutes) Sheldon can read 15 comics in 5 hours. Raj can read 28 comic books in 8 hours. Who is able to read the most comic books?

FOCUS QUESTION: How can we divide a fraction by another fraction?

EXAMPLE #1 Diana is painting statues. She has 7/8 of a gallon of paint remaining. Each statue requires 1/16 of a gallon of paint. How many statues can she paint? Diana can paint

EXAMPLE #2 A piano teacher has 4 ½ hours available to teach each night. Each lesson will last 1 ½ hours. How many lesson can the teacher schedule in a night? Number of lessons = time available divided by time spent 3 lessons.

Dear future mathematicians, You have been working independently on dividing a fraction by a whole, dividing a whole by a fraction and dividing a fraction by a fraction. Your task is to use your skills to help your group find the solutions to the posted scenarios within 15 minutes. P.S. I hope you didn’t forget what we studied about percent! Scenario Three Lucky the leprechaun is preparing the Lucky Charms cereal. He has 80 marshmallows and needs to use 30% of the marshmallows for a box of cereal. How many marshmallows does he use? Scenario Four Sonia’s mom gave her 7/8 of a bag of candy hearts. Sonia will split the bag with among four friends. How much of the bag will each friend get? Use a math question to support your answer.
