Fall of the Roman Empire

Leadership & Government  The Empire had become too large to be effectively governed with the established system.  Rich citizens were gaining government financial and land grants as the poor were taxed and left with nothing  22 Emperors in 50 years

Military  1/3 of a citizens total income was sent to pay for the military

Economic Troubles  Inflation caused high prices, which made life even more difficult  High unemployment and homelessness spread throughout Rome

Invaders  Germanic “Barbarians” from the north were conquering north part of the empire  Outer edge of the empire was ready to defended but the interior was poorly planned  Roads made it easy for invaders

Religion  Traditional Roman gods  Judaism  Christianity
