Healthcare Personnel Influenza Vaccination Reporting: Pilot Test of National Quality Forum Measure Centers for Disease Control and Prevention California Department of Public Health Webinar training November 2010

BACKGROUND Importance of influenza vaccination among healthcare personnel (HCP) Time-limited endorsement of a reporting measure for HCP flu vaccination by the National Quality Forum (NQF) Potential for future nationwide mandatory reporting using the NQF measure

PURPOSES Evaluate the feasibility of the NQF measure for HCP influenza vaccination coverage in various healthcare settings Identify barriers to implementing the NQF measure

PARTICIPATING INSTITUTIONS Acute care hospitals Long term care facilities Ambulatory surgery centers Dialysis centers Physician practices (community health centers, private offices)

DATA COLLECTION Web-based survey  HCP Vaccination data  Facility information  Vaccination program information  Data sources for reporting  Barriers to reporting

DENOMINATOR: Reporting period Reporting 1: October 1–October 31, Reporting 2: October 1–December 31, 2010 Reporting 3: October 1, 2010–March 31, 2011  Denominators in Reporting 2 & 3 should be greater than or equal to the denominator in Reporting 1.  Persons who began work after October 31 st should be added to the original number.  Persons who discontinued work after October 1 st should not be removed from the denominator.

FOUR NUMERATORS Received an influenza vaccination offered by the healthcare institution Received an influenza vaccination elsewhere Have a medical contraindication for the influenza vaccine Declined to receive an influenza vaccine for non-medical reasons

Declination Data Report documented data only. If your institution does not keep track of declinations, leave this numerator blank and provide the information in the comment box.

NUMERATORS: NOTES Include all personnel who have received an influenza vaccine since August 2010 Each numerator is mutually exclusive, so each HCP should be reported in only one reporting element Make sure that the sum of four numerators does not exceed the denominator
