Science Weekly Review This week completed their comparative essay of the five major world religions. They had to analyze the information and determine which were the most similar and which two had the greatest differences. The students also revisited the question from the beginning of the unit on how heat transfers to Earth’s materials.
6 th Grade Weekly Newsletter Math with Ms. York Week in Review This week students are becoming comfortable with new notations of multiplication and division and recognize their equivalence to the familiar notations of the prior grades. For example the expression 2 × b is exactly the same as 2 · b and both are exactly the same as 2b. Similarly, 6 ÷ 2 is exactly the same as 6/2. These new conventions are practiced to automaticity, both with and without variables. Students then were asked to extend their knowledge of GCF and the distributive property from Module 2 to expand, factor, and distribute expressions using new notation (6.NS.B.4). The students were introduced to factoring and distributing algebraic identities. These include: a + a = 2 · a = 2a, (a + b) + (a + b) = 2 · (a + b) = 2(a + b) = 2a + 2b, and a ÷ b = a/b. ELA with Mr. Knowles *All students are required to read at least three AR books every marking period. One of these books has to be based on Social Studies. Our first AR book and quiz will be due on March 9, This past week students finished a quiz on identifying types of figurative language and a response to literature on themes. Students then collaborated effectively by brainstorming ideas on developing a rule to live by. The three categories students may choose from are: healthy habits, bullying, and reduce- reuse-recycle. Students were introduced to choosito.com to assist in their research for their rule. ELA Next Week Next week students will continue Module #2a by researching a rule to live by. From this rule students will write a literary argument essay by following our 9 step writing process. Students will skillfully and logically explain how evidence supports their rule. This essay is due on March 2, You can find Module #2a here: Useful Website For 6 th Grade Modules Middle School Student Council would like to thank all of the chaperones who made the dance a success: Miss York, Miss Smith, Mr. Moltion, Mrs. Dickerson, Mrs. Benton, Mrs. Dann, Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Keech, Officer Fuerst, and TJ the DJ!
