Quick Write Summarize the central ideas of the text set and write a concluding statement.

Grade 6 - Unit 2: Ecosystems Content Statement – L.EC.M.4 Environmental Impact of Organisms – All organisms (including humans) cause change in the environment where they live. Some of the changes are harmful to the organism or other organisms, whereas others are helpful. Content Expectation L.EC Describe how human beings are part of the ecosystem of the Earth and that human activity can purposefully, or accidentally, alter the balance in ecosystems. Source: Grade 6 GLCE Companion Document

Biology - Unit 8: Population Ecology & Human Impacts on Ecosystems Content Expectation B3.4C Examine the negative impact of human activities. Source: High School Biology Priority Expectations Document

Text Set Debrief With your mascot partner discuss the following: As a learner:  What did you like about the text set, worked for you?  What did not? As a teacher:  What is your thinking regarding text sets in your classroom?

Considerations of a Text Set The Common Core State Standards emphasize students' abilities to not only restate the information a text teaches but to analyze authors claims… To do that kind of high-level, critical, analytical work, students need to read more than one text on a subject. In effect, they must become expert at gathering information and at analyzing how that information is conveyed, so that they can, indeed, evaluate texts rather than simply summarize them.
