From research question to thesis statement

Two Parts of the Enthymeme 1. The claim. The library is the most important building on campus. This is an idea stated as an assertion.

How to find a claim  Your claim is the answer to a question at issue.  Each type of question leads to a different conclusion and structure  Six types of questions at issue:  Fact = Does something exist?  Definition = What is it?  Interpretation = What does it signify?  Value = Is it good/bad/beneficial/harmful etc  Consequence = Will this cause that to happen?  Policy = What should be done about it?

2. The reason. The library is the most important building on campus because it creates a space for collaboration. Note: The primary reason for your thesis can be anything, but you should pick the best reason as it will be the roadmap of your whole paper.

How so? The library is the most important building on campus because it creates a space for collaboration. What do you need to address in your essay to make this true? What do you need to define to make your paper believable? What will your opposition say?
