Pathos, Ethos, Logos— With a Colt 45

Pathos is when an argument makes you feel an emotion like fear, disgust, or even calmness (30).

Ethos is what you think of the person who is making the argument (30).

Ethos includes three main elements: “trustworthiness/credibility, authority, and unselfish or clear motives” (45).

Logos is a combination of “facts, evidence, and reason” (56).

An Enthymeme is a claim that is based on a reason, but the claim’s validity actually depends on an unstated assumption (68).
