MATH 110 UNIT 1 – TRIGONOMETRY Part A

Activity 7 – Find Missing Sides To find an unknown side on a triangle, set up our trigonometric ratios and use the given angle to solve for the unknown side. A scientific calculator has the ratios for every angle stored in memory. To find the decimal value of the ratio for any angle you enter the ratio you want to find it for (Sin, Cos or Tan) and then enter the angle.

Example: find the sin ratio for a 65° angle enter Find the sin, cos and tan ratios for a 48° angle. *Always round ratios to 4 decimal places. 1. Sin 48° = ______ 2. Cos 48° = ______ 3. Tan 48° = ______ Sin65

Find the missing side for the triangle.

20° 16 y Determine the missing side for the triangle.

Example 1 45 o 9 x Solve for the unknown side x:

Example 2 Solve for x when θ = 60 o θ x 5

Example 1 45 o 9 x Solve for the unknown side x:

Example 2 Solve for x when θ = 60 o θ x 5
