FP420 meeting UTA, 26/03/2007, Marta 1 Detector simulation and machine induced backgrounds: status and plans Marta, Federico FP420 Collaboration Meeting Arlington Mar, 2007

FP420 meeting UTA, 26/03/2007, Marta 2 Simulation of beam line/detector  Two tools for beam transport (Peter Bussey, Louvain group) –HECTOR: integrated in CMS software –FPTRACK interfaced to EXHUME –FPTRACK integration into ATLAS software?  G4 simulation of beam line under development, BDSIM (Rob Appleby, Graham Sellers) - currently setting up the geometry - Peter’s Higgs acceptance plots reproduced to check beam transport - will model shower formation - suitable for integration in CMS/ATLAS G4 full simulation?

FP420 meeting UTA, 26/03/2007, Marta 3 Simulation of beam line/detector  FP420-G4 simulation (Sasha Zokhin) - track resolution studied - proton momentum reconstruction under development - same part of Sasha’s code are CMS-framework dependent:  needed manpower to collaborate with Sasha to extend to ATLAS or generalize (any volunteer?) - FP420-G4 integration into CMS software on going - Fp420-G4 integration into ATLAS must be foreseen

FP420 meeting UTA, 26/03/2007, Marta 4 Machine induced background [Marta, Keith, Federico, Rob, Monika]  Halo - halo induced by momentum cleaning collimators - halo induced by betratron cleaning collimators  IP secondaries  Beam gas

FP420 meeting UTA, 26/03/2007, Marta 5 Machine induced background [Marta, Keith, Federico, Rob, Monika]  Halo - halo induced by betatron cleaning collimators in contact with collimator group (Assman et al.), will (hopefully) soon get numbers from them - halo induced by momentum cleaning collimators DONE!  see Federico’s presentation  IP secondaries  Beam gas

FP420 meeting UTA, 26/03/2007, Marta 6 Machine induced background [Marta, Keith, Federico, Rob, Monika]  Halo - halo induced by betatron cleaning collimators in contact with collimator group (Assman et al.), will (hopefully) soon get numbers from them - halo induced by momentum cleaning collimators DONE!  see Federico’s presentation  IP secondaries supposed to be the most relevant background for us hard to get results from the machine..  Beam gas

FP420 meeting UTA, 26/03/2007, Marta 7 IP secondaries news  Protvino group was supposed to help with simulation results by now but did not – they now claim they cannot cause they miss the beam pipe model down to 420m  machine background meeting on March 16 th  Vadim Talanov from the machine group will soon have particle fluxes up to Q6 (230m) magnet – he has already results in the TAN region (144m) which he handed over to us plan is to use these files and to add the tracking up to 420m (with HECTOR? FPTRACK?) ; will not be the ideal simulation – cascade upstream the detector won’t be simulated – but at least will give us a feeling

FP420 meeting UTA, 26/03/2007, Marta 8 Machine induced background [Marta, Keith, Federico, Rob, Monika]  Halo - halo induced by betatron cleaning collimators in contact with collimator group (Assman et al.), will (hopefully) soon get numbers from them - halo induced by momentum cleaning collimators DONE!  see Federico’s presentation  IP secondaries supposed to be the most relevant background for us hard to get results from the machine..  Beam gas results from Protvino group to come, some already by end of May anyway we will have BSDIM, supposedly by summer 07

FP420 meeting UTA, 26/03/2007, Marta 9 Document  Tools for beam transport results on acceptance, resolution (available)  G4 simulation of the beam line (BDSIM)  G4 simulation of the detector results on multiple interaction rate and multiple scattering (available) optimization of detector layout/setup (available)  Machine induced background beam halo (half-available) IP secondaries beam gas
