Why do volcanoes erupt? Deep in the earth it is very hot. It is so hot that rocks melt. The melted rock is called magma. The magma is lighter than the.

Volcanoes  Volcanoes form at weak spots in the Earth’s crust.  Magma is a molten mixture of rocky substances. It forms within the Earth in the Magma.

20 November 2012 OBJECTIVE: Compare and contrast the three types of volcanoes. DO NOW: – Take out HW (Volcanoes WS) – Pick up WS from front table (do not glue) INTRO: Volcanoes are destructive forces, but they are necessary for the Earth and Humans. How can volcanoes be beneficial to the Earth and Humans?

Volcano Pen Pals – Pretend you witness the eruption of a volcano. Write a letter to a friend describing what you saw before the eruption, during the eruption, and after the eruption.

Volcano Pen Pals Use your notes and textbook (Ch. 9 begins on pg. 248) to help you At least ten (10) sentences Paragraph should include: – Describe the type of volcano – Describe the type of eruption – Describe the type of molten rock associated with that type of eruption. Include: How silica affects molten rock? What is the viscosity of the molten rock? Are gases trapped? Describe what pyroclastic material is erupted from the volcano – (Ex: lava, ash, volcanic bombs, pyroclastic flows, etc)

Shield Volcano Composite Volcano Cinder Cone Volcano Pg. 257 In textbook Has inside & outside pics.

OUTRO What is most likely to harm people living near a volcano? A.Pyroclastic flow B.Vent formation C.Ash fallout D.A mantle hot spot
