Agenda  Learning Target: Today I will put my knowledge of writing constructed responses to use.  Anatomy of a Constructed Response  BCR vs. DBQ vs. LBQ vs. Extended Response  Creating a Constructed Response  Mission:Possible/Go Green Refresher

Anatomy of a Constructed Response  RACE!  Use this method to help create your constructed responses.  R=restate the question  A=answer the question  C=cite evidence from text to support your answer  E=explain your answer

RACE

BCR vs. DBQ vs. LBQ vs. Extended Response  What do all of the letters mean?  BCR= Brief Constructed Response  DBQ= Document Based Question  LBQ= Literature Based Question  Extended Response= A multi-paragraph constructed response that is usually just short of essay length and addresses the “points” to be discussed more quickly and more directly.  More brief than an essay since it is given in a test-like environment.

Examples DBQ LBQ

Examples: Extended Response

“Mission Possible”  You have received two texts: “Codetalking” and “The Navajo.”  Directions:  After reading both of the texts above, choose 3 of the prompts below. Using 1 sheet of notebook paper per prompt, re-create the RACE(S) graphic organizer on one side, and then write your full constructed response on the opposite side.  Requirements:  Each constructed response must be at least 3 paragraphs and no more than 5 paragraphs in length. Within your constructed response, you must highlight where you used citations from the original texts. Since you will be responding to three prompts, please use 3 different highlighter colors (blue, pink, green). Each color will refer to each prompt (for example, information used for prompt #1 will be in blue, information used for prompt number #3 will be in pink, etc.).
