Geography of the United States

Geography- word that means earth Globe- most accurate map of the Earth Geographic Terms- terms used to describe bodes of water, such a bays, and landforms, and islands Physical features- important parts of the Earth surface, such as mountains, oceans, and rivers Compass- a tool for finding directions.

Understanding the Globe Intermediate points- points between the cardinal points: northeast, northwest, and southeast Equator- an imaginary line that circles the Earth that divides the Earth in to two hemispheres. (North and South) Prime Meridian- an imaginary line cuts the Earth in half from the North Pole to the South Pole

Using Geographic Terms for Water and Landforms Land Forms- masses of land such as continents, islands, and peninsulas

Latitude Lines: Lines that are horizontal that help geographers determine location Longitude Lines: Lines that are vertical that help geographers determine location Latitude Lines Longitude Lines
