Teaching Team The staff working with Year 3 this year are: Miss Madden Mrs Fiveash Mrs Green Miss Millsip Teaching Team The staff working with Class 3 this year are: Mrs Armstrong Mr Evans Miss Lyons Miss McIlduff

Teaching Team The staff working with Year 3 this year are: Miss Madden Mrs Fiveash Mrs Green Miss Millsip Transition from KS1 to KS2 The transition from the ‘infants’ into ‘juniors’ is one which should occur quite easily and we find that the children settle quite quickly into the routines and requirements which KS2 entails. In Class 3 the children are encouraged to become much more independent and the responsibility for remembering books bags, swimming kits, reading books etc. is handed over to them.

Teaching Team The staff working with Year 3 this year are: Miss Madden Mrs Fiveash Mrs Green Miss Millsip Curriculum Overview This is the Curriculum Overview for Class 3 this year. Autumn Extreme Events Spring Ancient Greece Summer Early Britons If you wish to support your child’s learning at home please encourage your child to carry out their own research using books or the Internet. Throughout the year we also have a number of curriculum enhancement weeks We will keep your informed through newsletters when these occur.

Teaching Team The staff working with Year 3 this year are: Miss Madden Mrs Fiveash Mrs Green Miss Millsip Homework Timetable During the week your child will bring home a range of homework activities. Your support with the completion of these tasks is really appreciated. MondaySpelling & Reading TuesdaySpelling & Reading WednesdaySpelling & Reading ThursdaySpelling & Reading FridaySpelling & Maths / Comprehension

Teaching Team The staff working with Year 3 this year are: Miss Madden Mrs Fiveash Mrs Green Miss Millsip Reading Throughout the week your child will bring home reading books from our levelled school reading scheme. They will also bring home a reading record book which contains vital information about the ways that you can support your child’s reading development. You can maintain a dialogue with us through this book. We encourage you to make comments on the books your child is reading and on their reading development. Those who read regularly outside of school make the most progress!

Teaching Team The staff working with Year 3 this year are: Miss Madden Mrs Fiveash Mrs Green Miss Millsip Spelling Each week your child will bring home a set of new spellings to learn. Please encourage them to learn them using the Look, Say Cover, Write, Check method, then write two sentences each night. Encourage your child to spend a few minutes each day revisiting and reviewing their spellings and to choose one of the spellings to create an extended sentence with. If you could test your child verbally or on paper throughout the week this would also really support their learning too. Your child will be tested every Tuesday morning.

Teaching Team The staff working with Year 3 this year are: Miss Madden Mrs Fiveash Mrs Green Miss Millsip Handwriting In Class 3 your child will be introduced to a cursive handwriting style. This is practised daily for the first few weeks and given as a homework activity; we would ask you to encourage your child to incorporate it into their homework after they have completed all the steps. All handwriting and other homework should be completed in pencil.

Teaching Team The staff working with Year 3 this year are: Miss Madden Mrs Fiveash Mrs Green Miss Millsip Maths To assist your child with their maths homework you have received a copy of our school ‘Numeracy Calculation Policy’. It explains how we are teaching your child to carry out the four number operations (+, -, X & ÷ ).

Teaching Team The staff working with Year 3 this year are: Miss Madden Mrs Fiveash Mrs Green Miss Millsip P.E P.E. in Class 3 takes place on Monday and Friday afternoons Could you please ensure that your child has appropriate kit in school for these lessons. Your child should wear black shorts, a red Grange T-shirt and black pumps (indoor) or trainers (outdoor) to participate in P.E. lessons. If your child needs a new P.E. T-shirt they can be purchased from “Prima Donna” in the Marion Square. It is vital for your child’s health and development that they take part fully in P.E. lessons. Therefore, if your child presents without a kit we will contact you to arrange for one to be brought into school. This year Class 3 will swim at The Meadows Swimming Pool (Maghull) on a Thursday ( after Christmas for the whole of the Spring Term). Girls must wear a one piece costume and boys must wear proper swimming trunks ( not baggy swimming shorts). All children must wear a swimming cap. Please ensure that all P.E. kit is labelled with your child’s name.

Teaching Team The staff working with Year 3 this year are: Miss Madden Mrs Fiveash Mrs Green Miss Millsip Attendance & Punctuality Classrooms are open from 8.45am each morning and the register is completed at 8.55am. Any child arriving after this time will be marked as late. Please ensure your child arrives on time to avoid disruption to the class and your child’s learning. If your child is unable to attend school, due to illness, please ring the school office. If you haven’t contacted school, Mrs Edge, our Home-School Liaison Officer will contact you. If your child has an appointment could you please send a letter or appointment card into school with the details. Annual and weekly attendance awards are given to the classes with the best attendance. Please help our class to achieve as many awards as possible this year!

Teaching Team The staff working with Year 3 this year are: Miss Madden Mrs Fiveash Mrs Green Miss Millsip Uniform Please ensure your child is always dressed for school in the appropriate school uniform. Could you also ensure that all uniform and belongings are labelled with your child’s name. Trainers are NOT allowed to be worn for school. However, children may bring in trainers to change into at break- times. Jewellery (apart from small stud earrings) may not be worn. Children with long hair should wear it tied back. Please ensure haircuts are appropriate for school.

Teaching Team The staff working with Year 3 this year are: Miss Madden Mrs Fiveash Mrs Green Miss Millsip Extended School Activities In school we offer a large range of extended school activities which we encourage your child to take part in. All activities are run by our own team of teaching assistants or qualified teachers/coaches and there are different activities offered each half-term. Study Support begins each morning at 7.45am.

Teaching Team The staff working with Year 3 this year are: Miss Madden Mrs Fiveash Mrs Green Miss Millsip Communication If you need to speak one of the Class 3 staff you can do so between am or briefly at the end of the day.
