You will be triaged and assessed by a qualified nurse who will decide where you need to be in order for your condition to be best managed. The triage nurse will ensure that you are seen by the right person in the right place. It may be that you require redirection or transfer to the following services: YYF Medical Assessment Unit OOH GP Own GP Pharmacist Local Accident and Emergency Department Once the triage nurse has decided that your condition is suitable for MIU you will wait to see a trained Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) What is an Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) ? An ENP is a qualified nurse who has extended training in the assessment and management of minor injuries without the need to refer to a Doctor. They are able to see patients as a result of minor trauma with the following injuries - Limb injuries – sprains and fractures Wounds and burns Eye problems Minor head and face injuries (children over 1 yr) Minor ENT problems Minor neck and back injuries (>20 years and < 55 years) If the ENP is unable to manage your injury you will be transferred/redirected to RGH Emergency Department.
