SSR TODAY, WE ARE STARTING ON PAGE 50 (NOT ON THAT PAGE? IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO READ IN COLD BLOOD).

THINGS I KNOW ICB=CHALLENGING LANGUAGE DRY EXPOSITION AND RISING ACTION PACKET ISN’T THE MOST FUN. SUB HERE=YOU MAY THINK IT ISN’T IMPORTANT TO USE CLASS TIME WISELY, BUT IT IS. EVEN MORE IMPORTANT TO BE ON THE TOP OF YOUR GAME WHEN I AM NOT IN THE ROOM. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE BUSY PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL. NO EXCUSE TO NOT USE CLASS TIME WHEN IT IS GIVEN.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW LET ME DOWN. TRYING NOT TO COMPARE… ABSENT=YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND OUT WHAT YOU MISSED/GET CAUGHT UP. I.E. MCFAUL. MY GOAL HAS BEEN TO PUSH THROUGH TO WHEN THE CRIME ACTUALLY TAKES PLACE (FINISH PART 1). IT’S A SLOW BUILD AND IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU ARE IN THE MINDSET OF LOOKING AT THE LANGUAGE— ACADEMICALLY AND CRITICALLY LOOKING AT THE AUTHOR’S CRAFT. IF YOU ARE COMPLETING THE PACKET AS WE GO, AND FULLY ADDRESSING ALL COMPONENTS, YOU ARE ENTERING THE HIGHER-LEVEL-THINKING LAND YOU NEED TO BE IN. IF YOU AREN’T, THEN YOU NEED TO: ASK QUESTIONS TO CLARIFY RE-READ BE IN CLASS KEEP UP IN CLASS. NOT POSSIBLE? ASK MCFAUL TO MAKE YOU A COPY OF THE TEXT TO WORK THROUGH OUTSIDE OF CLASS.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW THINGS CAN EITHER GET HARDER, OR EASIER—IT IS TOTALLY UP TO YOU. EASIER: DO YOUR BEST EVERY DAY. ASK QUESTIONS. BE IN CLASS HARDER: KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING. NOT DOING THE WORK. NOT DOING YOUR BEST EVERY DAY. NOT ASKING QUESTIONS. MISSING CLASS. MCFAUL IS MORE WILLING TO WORK WHEN IT COMES TO SEMESTER GRADES WITH THOSE STUDENTS WHO HAVE MADE THINGS EASIER.

SOME HELP… AT THIS POINT, ALL OF QUESTIONS 1-14 SHOULD BE DONE (EXCEPT THE REPEAT, AND THERE ARE TWO #1S). MCFAUL WILL OFFER UP SOME HELP WITH A FEW TRICKY ONES…FEEL FREE TO USE WHAT YOU NEED. OR NOT.

#8 Physical TraitsDickPerry “fastidious, very attentive to hygiene and the condition of their fingernails” (30). tattooed “his head had been halved like an apple, then put together a fraction off center” (31) “chunky, dwarfish legs” (31). Internal TraitsDickPerry Intelligent: IQ: 130Intellectual dirty mind fun-loving; lighthearted

(9) GARDEN CITY Quality of Garden CityEvidence to support qualityExplain how the evidence shows the quality. “the nightly after-eight silence of Main Street” (Capote 33). “few travelers remember the event [passing through Garden City]” (Capote 33). “All equal, regardless of wealth, color, or creed…but, of course, class distinctions are as clearly observed…as in any other human hive” (Capote 34).

ANY OTHERS THAT ARE CHALLENGING?

OK…MOVING FORWARD. PAGE 50. FOCUS: 50-52: BOBBY RUPP (WHY WOULD HE BE IMPORTANT TO THE STORY?) 52-55: BACK TO DICK AND PERRY (HOW DOES PERRY ACT? WHY?) SHORT CHUNKS OF TEXT: & PAGE 57. (WHY SO SHORT? WHAT IS CAPOTE TRYING TO DO?) 58-60: SUSAN KIDWELL (WHY SWITCH TO HER PERSPECTIVE? WHAT DETAILS IN THIS CHUNK OF TEXT BUILD UPON THE HORROR OF THE ACTUAL MURDERS?) NOTE: PAGES DESCRIBE THE MURDER SCENE.
