Elements of the Middle School Math Counts Event Sprint Round (40 minutes): Consisting of 30 problems, this round tests accuracy, with the time period allowing only the most capable students to complete all of the problems. Calculators are not permitted. Target Round (approximately 30 minutes): In this round 8 problems are presented to competitors in four pairs (6 minutes per pair). The multistep problems featured in this round engage Mathletes in mathematical reasoning and problem-solving processes. Problems assume the use of calculators. Team Round (20 minutes): In this round, interaction among team members is permitted and encouraged as they work together to solve 10 problems. Problems assume the use of calculators. Countdown Round: A fast-paced oral competition for top-scoring individuals (based on scores in the Target and Sprint Rounds), this round allows pairs of Mathletes to compete against each other and the clock to solve problems. Calculators are not permitted. Register your team at by September 30http://bit.ly/middlemathcounts
