2 nd Grade Back to School Night September 22, 6:30pm (Monday) Or September 27, 10am (Saturday)

Who is Back to School Night for? Parents/Guardians of second graders at Richmond Elementary School What is the purpose of Back to School Night? To become familiar with the world that your child inhabits everyday. Including routines, policies, goals, and expectations. Meet the staff and teachers that help to ensure the success of your child. Introduce parents to the curriculum the students will be learning. Offer opportunities for parents/guardians to volunteer and become involved in the PTA (Parent Teacher Association). Answer any questions regarding your child’s schooling.

Agenda: Introduction of teachers and staff Goals and expectations of the year Curriculum study Daily routines of students Homework policy Parent Involvement in child’s education Discipline Plan Share contact information PTA/volunteer opportunities Questions/comments/concerns Questionnaire

Potential Barriers to Back to School Night: Parents unable to attend allotted times. (Working) No transportation. No child care. Parents not interested in child’s education.

Ways to overcome these barriers: Offer more than one time/day for parents to attend Back to School Night. Send out presentation or information to those parents that were unable to attend. Work with the school to see if bus drivers can be hired for the night to help transport parents to and from the school. Give the principal advanced notice of this plan. Recruit volunteers to provide childcare during the allotted Back to School Night times. Send newsletters/call parents to get them excited about Back to School Night.
