The Great Wall of China The Great Wall of China was built over 2000 years ago and is the longest man-made structure ever created. It is believed that the main purpose of the Great Wall was to protect China from invasion or attack by northern tribes. It is also the only man-made structure that can be seen from space

In China, each year is represented by an animal. There are twelve animals which represent the twelve months.

Red is considered a lucky color in China. At one time wedding dresses were red. New Year's banners, clothing, and lucky money envelopes are still red.

Music in China Traditional music in China is played on solo instruments or in small ensembles of plucked and bowed stringed instruments, flutes, and various cymbals, gongs, and drums. The scale is pentatonic. Bamboo pipes and qin are among the oldest known musical instruments from China; instruments are traditionally divided into categories based on their material of composition: animal skins, gourd, bamboo, wood, silk, earth/clay, metal and stone. Chinese orchestras traditionally consist of bowed strings, woodwinds, plucked strings and percussion.

Chinese Dance The earliest forms of dance grew out of religious rituals—including exorcism dances performed by shaman and drunken masked In ancient times, dance was regarded as a kind of physical exercise that help harmonize the body and the mind. It featured performers with flutes and pheasant feathers.

One of the most dramatic forms of Chinese dance is the sleeve or ribbon dance. A dancer uses long silk sleeves to accentuate their hand and arm movements, whirling them around and snapping them like whips.

The Lantern Dance, or Flower Lantern Dance, is popular in southern China and is known by a number of other names. The dance features circular movements of the arms and hands, wavy body motions, and lower back movements linked to the movements of a dragon.
