Sustainable energy systems Sustainable energy technologies Sustainable energy sources ? COURSE TITLE: Sustainable Energy Technologies Definition

The term, sustainable development, was popularized in Our Common Future, a report published by the World Commission on Environment and Development in Also known as the Brundtland report, Our Common Future included the “classic” definition of sustainable development: “development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” Definition Read more:

It is generally accepted that sustainable development calls for a convergence between the three pillars of - economic development, - social equity, - environmental protection. Definition

better efficiency, better cost effectiveness, better use of energy resources, better environment, better energy security better sustainable development. Sustainability Profile lasts a long time does no harm leaves no change New Science for a Secure and Sustainable Energy Future George Crabtree Marc Kastner Co-chairs, New Era subcommittee Definition

WHY SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGIES, ENERGY SOURCES AND SYSTEMS? Limited availability of fossil fuels and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions call for fundamental innovations in the global energy landscape (meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs). Sustainable energy and renewable energy technologies, such as bio-energy, solar energy, wind energy and hydrogen, play a key role in tackling these issues, especially given people’s determination to maintain or improve their living standards. Combined heat and power and cooling! – not always renewable, but sustainable. SUISTANABLE IS NOT ALWAYS EQUAL TO RENEWABLE Definition

COURCE STRUCTURE Sustainable Energy Technologies / Sources 1. WIND 2. SOLAR 3. HYDRO 4. BIOMASS 5. CHP, FUEL CELLS, GEOTHERMAL, …

COURSE STRUCTURE Expected structure: NOT COMPULSARY USAGE & POTENTIAL (world, …) TECHNOLOGIES/TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS (working principles, energy produced) HOW BENEFITS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PRINCIPLES NATURE OF ENERGY SOURCE (what is …. wind, solar radiation, biomass?)
