Canada at War  Many men and women went overseas to fight in WWII  Those who remained at home played an important role in the war effort  The unemployment of the depression disappeared as men and women worked to produce necessities for the war  The Federal Government played a key role in coordinating war production and planning the total war effort

War Measures Act  PM King and his liberal government revived the War Measure Act that gave the federal government extraordinary powers over people and industries Powers of the Federal Government:  Intern, arrest and imprison “enemy aliens”  ration goods  direct the allocation of resources  use censorship  raise taxes on certain goods

Government Support  Quite often propaganda is connected with negative emotions or placing a feeling of guilt  Governments needed money for the war effort so they focused their efforts on posters aimed at raising money from citizens
