Thursday, 27 April 2017 Angles Starter: Multiplications

Thursday, 27 April 2017 Angles Objectives: Be able to name and measure angles. Level 3a/4c Outcomes Must: Measure and draw angles Should: Measure angles Could: Draw angles

Measuring angles An angle is a measure of turn and is usually measured in degrees. A full turn measures 360°. 360° Links: S1 Line and angles – calculating angles. S6 Construction and loci – drawing angles.

Measuring angles An angle is a measure of turn and is usually measured in degrees. A quarter turn measures 90°. It is called a right angle. 90° We label a right angle with a small square. Links: S1 Line and angles – calculating angles. S6 Construction and loci – drawing angles.

Measuring angles An angle is a measure of turn and is usually measured in degrees. A half turn measures 180°. This is a straight line. 180° Links: S1 Line and angles – calculating angles. S6 Construction and loci – drawing angles.

Measuring angles An angle is a measure of turn and is usually measured in degrees. A three-quarter turn measures 270°. 270° Links: S1 Line and angles – calculating angles. S6 Construction and loci – drawing angles.

Acute, obtuse and reflex angles All angles are acute, obtuse or reflex. An acute angle is between 0º and 90º. An obtuse angle is between 90º and 180º. An reflex angle is between 180º and 360º. Pupils should be able to classify angles according to whether they are acute, right angle, obtuse, straight lines or reflex.

Using a protractor We measure angles with a protractor. Discuss the two scales on the protractor. The outside scale goes from 0° to 180° and the inner scale goes from 180° to 0°. Notice that the protractor has two scales. Before you measure an angle decide whether it is acute or obtuse.

Measuring and drawing angles Measure the angle using a protractor and state whether its obtuse, acute or reflex. Acute angle Obtuse angle 60 135 Obtuse angle Acute angle 40 110

Measuring and drawing angles Use a protractor to draw out the angles. (1) First draw a straight line (a) 65 (2)Line up the protractor (3) Put a mark at 65 Acute angle (4) Connect the line 65 (a) 22 (1) First draw a straight line (2)Line up the protractor (3) Put a mark at 65 Acute angle 22 (4) Connect the line

Measuring and drawing angles (1) First draw a straight line (2)Line up the protractor (a) 124 (3) Put a mark at 124 Obtuse angle (4) Connect the line 124 (a) 235 (1) First draw a straight line (2)Line up the protractor 235 (3) Put a mark at 235 (4) Connect the line Reflex angle
